Library Lessons

Many of the research lessons we have done this year involve topics of science.

Each class, 3rd, 4th and 5th have worked on compiling research for different projects.  Please take a look to see what we have done so far

3rd Graders have learned to make citations for reference sources used in research,  They created accounts using Noodletools - a Google friendly citation creator provided by the district.  This product will be used throughout their time as Long Beach students.  After researching a Biome - they created an animal for their biome with clay, pipe cleaners, feathers, google eyes and imagination!  (pic below)

Currently, the 3rd grade is working on a Biome Project where they chose and researched one of Earthś Biomes. Using an on-line encyclopedia for information, they are creating slide show presentations and correctly citing their source/information

Fourth Grade selected an Ocean or Sea to research and created slide shows to present their findings.  They used databases to find sources of information on their ocean/sea.  Database searches differ from using search engines and learning how to navigate and locate information on a database in an essential skill for upper level research

Fifth Grades completed an informational research project about seed banks.

After reading, The Garden at the End of the World by Cassy Polimeni and Briony Stewart,   students researched the seed bank in Svalbard Norway and created and presented the information they compiled.    Recently the fifith grade started a project on a Global Issue focusing on climate change or human impact topics.  They were challenged to use database resources for their information and their projects are turning out amazing!
